Mikawaya is a traditional Japanese restaurant and inn where one can enjoy cuisine made with rare fish such as etsu (Japanese grenadier anchovy) and kawa-ankou (goosefish) which can be found only in Chikugo River. It has been more than 130 years since it was first founded in 1876. Miyakawa has always moved hand in hand with Chikugo River.
Coming upstream from Kumamoto and Aso, the Chikugo River enriches the Chikugo plains in Suigo and Hita, pouring into the Ariake Sea.
Mikawaya brings the rich natural blessings of Chikugo River to the table, making use of seasonal ingredients to make various local dishes. The rare native eels, anchovies and goosefish are the pride of Miyakawa.
