The Showa Period of Japan is a celebrated era which marked the revival of the country after the second World War. "Showa no Machi" in Bungotakada, Oita, is a shopping street which recreates the look of the Showa era, complete with retro billboards and structures, giving off an authentic and nostalgic feel of 1950's Japan.
A front-engine bus tour of the same name, "Showa no Machi," is free of charge on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays. There is also a Showa no Machi museum which showcases old electrical appliances and more.
