The Yume Tachinaba Plum Blossom Viewing Festival is an event that takes place every year in February, when around 30 thousand white plum blossoms come into bloom. The Tanigawa plum grove area is said to be one of Kyushu’s three famous plum blossom parks, receiving many sightseers when the flowers are in bloom. Starting with a walk around the area to view the blossoms, visitors can also enjoy wine tasting, purchasing local goods at the main venue as well as tasty food (including a local favorite, dago jiru, or miso soup with dumplings) at the many open-air stalls.
Using candles in sculpted bamboo shafts to create works of art, the Take Akari Genso no Sekai (World of Fantastic Bamboo Lights) which takes place at the nearby Tachibana Wine Cellar/Tazaki Hirosuke Memorial Art Gallery is also a must-see! The shafts are made by the Tachibana's volunteer firefighters, local elementary school students, and volunteers who create the shafts over a two-month period.
There are also many musical performances and art exhibitions to enjoy, so don’t miss it!
