When it comes to animal cafes, a friend and I decided to try something different from the popular cat cafe - going to an owl cafe!
My general image of owls used to be just a pair of round, scary yellow eyes hooting at night, but thanks to Harry Potter, I've since thought of them as animals I can possibly cuddle. (Note: you can not and should not cuddle owls in owl cafes!)
"Fukuro no Mise" in Fukuoka is located in Kamikawabata in Hakata, close to Canal City and a stone's throw away from Kushida Shrine. We reserved two slots from a cafe staff who was standing outside the shop. Visitors are only allowed inside per batch every hour. There are 2 floors; the first floor is where the owls are and the second floor is where visitors can put down their bags and sit down. This is also where they will be briefed on the do's and dont's of handling owls. This briefing is only conducted entirely in Japanese, but it's pretty understandable as the staff will also do gestures, particularly on how to touch the owls.
