We went to Mount Sarakura, which holds one of Japan’s newly designated “best 3 night views.” I’m usually not interested in night views, but once I absorbed the view in all its glory, I thought I should definitely let other people know about it.

Getting to the Hobashira cable car station takes a 25-minute walk from JR Yahata Station, or a 5-minute taxi ride. The cable car ride up to the mountain summit takes around 10 minutes. Of course, you can have your fill of the view of the city below as you ride the cable car. By the way, you can also go up the mountain by driving up with your own car, but the parking lot space is limited, and the road up to the mountain takes longer so I would recommend going up via cable car instead.

The viewing area at the summit is wide, and people sit down and take in the night view of Kitakyushu City from the observatory or even just by sitting on the grass.

I was on a date with my girlfriend then and my heart felt so happy and at peace that I almost wished time would stop! It was definitely a memorable day. If you’re in Kyushu, you definitely shouldn’t miss going here!
