Kurume Forest Azalea Park was erected in commemoration of Kurume's azaleas (a specialty of Kurume City) being selected as the Fukuoka Prefectural Tree. 62 thousand azaleas of 100 different varieties have been planted in this great location with its panoramic view of the Chikugo River and the Chikugo Plain; the best time to view the flowers is from mid-April to early May. There are also historical sites and hiking trails in the area, and many people visit the park for picnics and forest bathing throughout the year.
