“I want to go and see the beautiful sea! But Okinawa’s a bit too far…” Haven’t you ever thought this way?
I however, have found a great place. Here I will introduce Tsunoshima, a place you can go to even on a daytrip.
Tsunoshima is located in the northwestern part of Yamaguchi Prefecture, floating in the Sea of Japan. Shaped like a dike, it is an island with a population of around 900 people. With the completion of Tsunoshima Bridge in the year 2000, the place immediately became a popular tourist spot associated with Yamaguchi Prefecture. But what makes Tsunoshima charming, more than anything, are the white sandy seashore and the emerald green sea! You would not even think that you’re looking out to the Sea of Japan; you will feel like you’re looking at the sea from a tropical island.
The sight of the beautiful, shining, emerald green sea as it stretches from mainland Honshu to the Tsunoshima bridge, and finally to the island, has somehow become a familiar sight. Seeing this for the first time made me think that this is a scenery that can’t be seen just anywhere in Japan.
With the white sand on the beach, the blue sky, and the quiet waves, it was definitely a peaceful sight that healed my heart.
Since the movie “Miracle in Four Days” was filmed here, I was also reminded of scenes from the movie.
I was able to take good photos.
From JR Sanyo Line, get off at Kottoi Station. Get on a Blue Line Bus bound for Tsunoshima. It takes around 23 minutes to get there.
